Young Brit Saves Money with His Electric Milk Float

Monday, October 20th, 2008 7:10 pm

Have you ever heard of an electric milk float?  If you live in Europe, you might be familiar with these electric vehicles, but anyone outside of Europe is probably scratching his head and wondering how exactly is milk supposed to float.

Despite its odd name, an electric milk float is a special type of vehicle that was used for milk delivery.  These vehicles were only made to go 10 to 15 miles per hour because they were simply driven from house to house when delivering milk.  The side doors of electric milk floats were also commonly left open in order to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.

Well, apparently, there are some people who still like to drive these vehicles around.  According to a press release from Flux insurance , a young man by the name of James Darling is tooling around the streets of London in an electric milk float.  It seemed to be a logical vehicle option, as it costs mere pennies per mile to operate and he claims most of the city traffic in London doesn’t go much over 15 miles per hour anyway.

Unfortunately, due to the oddness of the vehicle and because of he is only 20 years old, Darling had difficulty finding an insurance company willing to cover him, so it was Flux insurance to the rescue.  So, congratulations to Darling for finally getting the coverage he needs and being able to drive around in style with his milk float!
